Vanderbilt freshman Giovanna Meeks won the women's hammer throw gold medal for the United States with a third-round effort of 194-1 (59.17m) at the Pan American U20 Championships at Jose A. Figueroa Freire Stadium in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. Meeks became the first American female athlete to secure hammer throw gold at the meet since Haley Showalter achieved the feat in 2015 in Canada.
